Our Berber rugs
What is an authentic Berber rug?
An authentic Berber rug is a handcrafted decorative object, entirely hand-knotted by artisans from the tribes of the Moroccan Atlas. Each piece is unique: the patterns, imperfections and colour variations bear witness to an ancestral craft passed down from generation to generation. At Tamazi, every rug is selected directly from weaving cooperatives.
What is the difference between a Beni Ouarain, a Mrirt and an Azilal?
The Beni Ouarain is recognisable by its cream white background and minimalist black geometric patterns, in natural wool. The Mrirt, our signature product, is the pinnacle of the Berber rug: soft, dense and refined, it comes in a palette of deep colours. The Azilal, woven in wool and cotton, stands out for its vibrant colours (turquoise, yellow, pink, bright orange) and its joyful energy. All three share a similar thickness of approximately 2 to 3 cm (~2.5 cm).
How can you tell a genuine Berber rug from a fake?
Several signs help distinguish an authentic Berber rug. Turn the rug over: the knots should be visible on the back. Hand-sewn edges show slight irregularities, which is normal and even a sign of authenticity. On the other hand, perfectly straight and even edges are a sign of industrial manufacturing. The more knots per square metre, the better the quality.
What size rug should I choose for my home?
Here are our recommendations according to your space:
- Bedside runner → 80 × 120 cm
- Children's room / Office → 100 × 150 cm
- Standard living room (< 20 m²) → 160 × 230 cm
- Large living room (> 25 m²) → 200 × 300 cm or 300 × 400 cm

Are your rugs suitable for rooms with underfloor heating?
Yes. Our natural wool rugs are compatible with underfloor heating. Wool is an excellent natural thermal insulator that regulates temperature. Simply ensure the floor temperature does not exceed 28 °C.
Orders and delivery
What are the delivery times?
For rugs in stock, allow 3 to 5 business days in metropolitan France and 5 to 10 business days for the rest of Europe. Our rugs are shipped from our warehouse in France. You will receive a confirmation email with the tracking number as soon as your order is dispatched.
For custom-made rugs, lead times are longer as each piece is hand-woven especially for you. Please refer to the dedicated question below.
Do you deliver internationally?
Yes, we deliver throughout Europe and internationally. Shipping costs and delivery times vary depending on the destination and are calculated automatically at checkout.
Is delivery free?
Delivery is free in metropolitan France for all orders. For deliveries outside France, shipping costs are calculated based on the destination and displayed before payment.
What are the lead times for a custom-made rug?
A custom-made rug is a special order: the artisan hand-weaves it entirely according to your dimensions and colour preferences. Allow an average of 8 to 12 weeks between the confirmation of your order and delivery to your home. This lead time includes hand-weaving, traditional washing, sun drying and shipping from Morocco to our warehouse in France.
We keep you informed of the progress of your order. The result is a truly unique piece, created for you.
How can I track my order?
An email containing your tracking number is sent to you as soon as your parcel is dispatched. You can track the delivery of your rug in real time via the link provided in that email.
Care
How do I care for my Berber rug on a daily basis?
We recommend vacuuming a maximum of once a week, using a flat attachment only (never a rotating brush, which damages the fibres). For a stain, blot immediately with a damp cloth without rubbing. Professional cleaning is advised once a year for heavily used rugs.
My rug is shedding, is that normal?
Yes, this is perfectly normal during the first few weeks. A natural wool rug sheds small fibres at the beginning: this is a sign of quality virgin wool. This phenomenon gradually decreases and disappears completely after a few weeks of use.
Are Berber rugs suitable for people with allergies?
Berber rugs may be suitable for people with allergies, but this depends on individual sensitivity. Made from natural wool without aggressive chemical treatment, they offer a healthier environment than many synthetic rugs. Wool also has breathable properties and helps regulate humidity.
However, like any textile, a rug can retain dust and allergens. Regular maintenance is therefore essential, particularly for sensitive individuals. In case of allergy, it is recommended to seek the advice of a healthcare professional before use.
