How does Beni Ouarain custom sizing work?
The process is simple and transparent, in four steps:
1. Choose a design, Browse the Beni Ouarain rug models shown above. Each model displays the style of geometric patterns and the overall aesthetic of the rug: nested diamonds, crossed lines, chevrons, tribal symbols on a cream white background. Select the one that suits your interior.
2. Specify your dimensions, On the product page of your chosen model, select the desired size. Length and width to your convenience, adapted to the exact dimensions of your room. No standard size imposed — custom sizing adapts to your space, not the other way around.
3. Artisanal production in Morocco, Your order is transmitted to our partner weavers in the Middle Atlas. Production begins on a traditional wooden loom. Each tuft of wool is individually knotted, creating the long, dense and soft pile that is the signature of the Beni Ouarain. Allow 10 to 14 weeks for production and delivery.
4. Inspection in Toulouse and shipping, The finished rug is shipped to our premises in Toulouse (Fonbeauzard), where we carry out a thorough inspection: dimensions, pile quality, weaving regularity, conformity to the ordered design. If everything meets our standards, the rug is shipped to you. If a defect is found, we have it remade.
What to know before ordering
A custom Beni Ouarain rug is a handcrafted product. Here are the key points to know for a smooth ordering experience:
You choose an existing design, Custom sizing applies to the dimensions of your rug. You select a model from our existing Beni Ouarain designs — the geometric pattern style of that model will be reproduced by the weaver. The result will be faithful to approximately 80–90% of the original model. Since each rug is woven by hand with a degree of personal creativity, it will never be 100% identical, and that is precisely what makes it a unique piece.
Dimensional tolerance of ± 10 cm, Hand weaving on a traditional loom does not allow centimetre-perfect precision. Final dimensions may vary by plus or minus 10 cm from the order. If your space is constrained (between two walls, under a built-in piece of furniture), order 5 to 10 cm less than the maximum available dimension.
Fringes are present on both ends, The ordered dimensions do not include the fringes, which will be added to both ends of the rug (along the length). Allow a few extra centimetres.
Lead time of 10 to 14 weeks, The Beni Ouarain requires a longer production time than the coloured Azilal rug due to its individual knotting technique (long pile). The lead time covers production in Morocco, transport to Toulouse, quality inspection and delivery to your home. It may vary slightly depending on the size of the rug and the time of year.
Why the Beni Ouarain is ideal for custom sizing
The Beni Ouarain rug is the most requested Berber rug for custom sizing, and for good reason. Its understated and refined aesthetic (cream white, black geometric patterns, long pile) integrates seamlessly into interiors where every proportion matters: Scandinavian, minimalist, japandi, contemporary spaces. In these pared-back interiors, a rug that is too small or too large is immediately noticeable. Custom sizing guarantees perfect proportions — the rug integrates into the space as if it had always been there.
Here are the situations where a custom Beni Ouarain makes the most sense:
Your living room has non-standard dimensions, An L-shaped living room, a very long lounge, an open-plan living space: stock rugs come in fixed proportions. Custom sizing adapts exactly to your configuration, for a visually perfect result.
You want to cover a large area, Very large Beni Ouarain rugs in stock are rare (their production takes months). Custom sizing allows you to order the exact dimensions you need, even in very large formats, without waiting for a matching piece to come into stock.
You are looking for a precise size for a bedroom, A Beni Ouarain under the bed must be proportionate to the bed and the room. Too small, it disappears under the bed. Too large, it touches the walls. Custom sizing allows you to calculate the ideal dimensions: bed width + 60 cm on each side, bed length + 80 cm at the foot.
An architect or interior designer project, For professionals working from plans, custom sizing is the standard. Dimensions are calculated in advance based on the layout, furniture and circulation — the rug is integrated into the project from the outset.
How to measure correctly for your custom Beni Ouarain
The accuracy of your measurements determines the success of the result. Here are our recommendations:
Measure the available space, Tape measure on the floor, note length and width in centimetres. Measure at several points if your room is not perfectly rectangular.
Apply the frame rule, Leave 30 to 50 cm of visible floor between the edges of the rug and the walls. This border highlights the rug and avoids the fitted carpet effect — particularly important with a white rug, which can give this impression if it reaches the walls.
Living room rule, The front legs of the sofa and armchairs should rest on the rug. Allow the rug to extend 20 to 30 cm beyond the coffee table.
Bedroom rule, Bed width + 60 cm on each side (for bedside step-off areas), bed length + 80 cm at the foot minimum.
Dining room rule, Table dimensions + 60 cm on each side so that chairs remain on the rug even when pulled out.
Factor in the ± 10 cm tolerance, In a constrained space, order 5 to 10 cm less than your maximum dimension. In an open space (living room, lounge), the tolerance has no visual impact.
Test on the floor , Mark a rectangle on the floor with masking tape at the intended dimensions. Live with it for a day or two to check proportions and circulation.
The Beni Ouarain: 100% wool from the Middle Atlas
Your custom Beni Ouarain rug will be woven under the same conditions as the pieces in our stock collection: by hand, by a Berber weaver from the Middle Atlas, on a traditional wooden loom. Composition: 100% wool from natural sheep. The cream white background is the raw, undyed colour of the wool. The geometric patterns are woven in black or dark brown wool. The pile is long and dense, achieved by individually knotting each tuft — this is what gives the Beni Ouarain its unmatched softness and plushness. The wool comes from sheep raised at altitude in the Middle Atlas, a hardy breed whose fleece is naturally thick, soft and insulating.

Frequently asked questions about custom white Beni Ouarain rugs
How do I order a custom Beni Ouarain rug?
Choose a design from our Beni Ouarain rug models, select the desired size on the product page and complete your purchase online. Your order is transmitted to our weavers in the Middle Atlas. The rug is then inspected in Toulouse before being shipped to you. Allow 10 to 14 weeks in total.
Can I freely choose the geometric patterns?
Custom sizing applies to the dimensions of your rug. You choose a design from our existing models — the geometric patterns and aesthetic of that model will be reproduced by the weaver. The result will be faithful to approximately 80–90%, with the natural variations of hand weaving. Each rug remains a unique piece.
Why is the lead time 10 to 14 weeks?
The Beni Ouarain rug is woven using an individual knotting technique for each tuft of wool, which creates its characteristic long, dense pile. This process takes more time than weaving a flat-pile rug. The 10 to 14 week lead time covers artisanal production in Morocco, transport to Toulouse, quality inspection and delivery to your home.
Are the final dimensions exact?
Artisanal weaving involves a tolerance of ± 10 cm on final dimensions. Fringes are not included in the ordered dimensions (they will be present on both ends). If your space is constrained, order 5 to 10 cm less than your maximum dimension. In an open space, the tolerance has no visual impact.
How do I care for a custom white Beni Ouarain?
Care is identical to our stock rugs. Vacuum regularly in the direction of the pile (without a rotating brush). In case of a stain, blot with a damp cloth and mild soap — never rub. Natural wool contains lanolin which repels liquids and dirt. Professional cleaning every two to three years is sufficient.
What happens if the rug does not suit me?
Every custom rug is inspected at our premises in Toulouse before shipping. In the event of a quality defect or significant non-conformity, we have the rug remade. Once delivered, you have 30 days to return the rug if you are not satisfied. Contact us at contact@tamazi.fr.
