Three major families of Berber rugs
The Berber rug is not a single product — it is a universe of distinct traditions, each carried by different tribes from different regions of Morocco. Our collection covers the three most sought-after major families:
The Azilal rug is the most expressive. Woven by Berber women of the High Atlas, it is distinguished by total artistic freedom: abstract motifs, zigzags, scattered diamonds, splashes of colour — each weaver creates according to her inspiration and her story. Natural wool ecru background, vivid coloured accents (pink, blue, green, orange, yellow, black), low pile and easy to maintain. Composition: approximately 85% sheep's wool, 15% cotton. It is the ideal Berber rug for a bohemian chic, contemporary or eclectic interior. Available in our collection in small, medium, large, extra-large, runner and round formats.
The Beni Ouarain rug is the most understated and the best known internationally. Woven by the tribes of the Middle Atlas in natural cream-white wool, it is adorned with black or brown geometric motifs, diamonds, crossed lines and tribal symbols. Its pile is long and dense, giving it remarkable softness and plushness. It is the reference Berber rug for a Scandinavian, minimalist or Japandi interior. Available in small, large, extra-large and runner formats.
The Mrirt rug is the premium option. Woven in the Beni Mellal-Khénifra region of the Middle Atlas, it stands out for its exceptionally dense weave — the tightest of all Berber rugs — and a silky wool with a pearlescent sheen, achieved through an artisanal washing and buffing process. Its thickness can reach 5 cm, making it the most comfortable. Available in living room, large format and runner sizes.
How to choose between Azilal, Beni Ouarain and Mrirt?
The choice depends on three criteria: the atmosphere you wish to create, the intended use and your budget.
Looking for colour and personality? The Azilal rug is made for you. Its abstract motifs and vivid colours bring character to any room. It is also the most affordable in our collection.
Do you prefer simplicity and softness? The Beni Ouarain rug is the obvious choice. Its cream white and black geometric motifs create a bright and soothing atmosphere. Its long pile offers exceptional underfoot comfort.
Do you want the best in terms of quality and comfort? The Mrirt rug is the densest, the thickest and the most silky. It is a lasting investment in an exceptional piece that will stand the test of decades.
Unsure about the size? A small rug (approximately 90 × 160 cm) is suitable as a bedside rug, a reading nook or an entryway. A medium rug (~150 × 210 cm) is ideal in front of a sofa or at the centre of a bedroom. A large rug (from 200 × 300 cm) anchors an entire living room. A runner rug dresses a hallway or a long corridor. A round rug creates a focal point under a table or in an open living space. Use the filters below to refine your search by tribe, size, motif, colour or budget.

If no rug in our stock matches the exact dimensions of your room, we offer a custom-made Berber rug service. Choose a design from our existing models — coloured Azilal, white Beni Ouarain or luxury Mrirt — then specify the desired dimensions. Our weavers will craft it especially for you in Morocco. The rug is then inspected at our premises in Toulouse before being shipped to you. Allow 8 to 12 weeks for production and delivery.
Berber craftsmanship: a thousand-year-old tradition
Each Berber rug in our collection is the result of several weeks of work on a traditional wooden loom. Weaving is an exclusively female art among the tribes of the High and Middle Atlas: women create freely, knot by knot, thread by thread. The motifs are not merely decorative — protective diamonds, zigzags evoking water or the path of life, fertility triangles, chevrons recalling the mountains — they carry a symbolic language passed down from mother to daughter for generations. By choosing a Tamazi rug, you welcome an authentic piece of folk art into your home and support ethical craftsmanship that allows Berber weavers to live from their expertise.

Frequently asked questions about Berber rugs
What is the difference between an Azilal, Beni Ouarain and Mrirt rug?
The Azilal rug is colourful, low-pile, with freely created abstract motifs — it is the most expressive and the most affordable. The Beni Ouarain rug is made from white wool with black geometric motifs, long pile, understated and cosy. The Mrirt rug is the densest and the thickest, with a silky wool and a velvet-like appearance — it is the premium option. All three are hand-woven in natural sheep's wool in Morocco.
Are your Berber rugs authentic and handmade?
Yes, all our rugs are 100% hand-woven by Berber craftswomen in Morocco, on traditional wooden looms. We work directly with the cooperatives of the Azilal (High Atlas), Beni Ouarain (Middle Atlas) and Mrirt (Beni Mellal-Khénifra) tribes. Each rug is a unique piece — no two are alike.
How do I choose the right size of Berber rug?
Measure the available space in your room and apply these guidelines: a small rug (~90 × 160 cm) is suitable as a bedside rug, an entryway or a reading nook. A medium rug (~150 × 210 cm) is ideal in front of a sofa or at the centre of a bedroom. A large rug (from 200 × 300 cm) anchors an entire living room. A runner rug dresses a passageway. If in doubt, mark out a rectangle on the floor with masking tape to visualise the footprint before purchasing.
How do I care for a Berber rug?
Vacuum regularly in the direction of the pile (without a rotating brush for low-pile Azilal rugs). In the event of a stain, blot with a damp cloth and mild soap without rubbing. For a deep clean, call on a professional wool rug cleaning service. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. Natural wool is naturally dirt-resistant and stain-resistant.
Do you offer custom-made Berber rugs?
Yes, it is one of our specialities. We offer a custom-made rug service in three ranges: coloured Azilal, white Beni Ouarain and luxury Mrirt. You choose a design from our models, then specify the desired dimensions. Allow 8 to 12 weeks for production and delivery.
Do you deliver outside France?
Yes, we deliver throughout the European Union with no customs fees (our rugs are stocked in France). We also ship to Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Australia and the United Arab Emirates. For deliveries outside the EU, customs fees may be applied by the authorities of your country — these fees are not included in the price and are the responsibility of the buyer.
Can we see the rugs before buying?
Yes, we have a showroom in Fonbeauzard (near Toulouse), at 2 rue Georges Brassens, where a selection of our rugs is on display. You can discover the quality of the wool and compare the Azilal, Beni Ouarain and Mrirt styles. Visits by appointment only — contact us to arrange a time slot.
